About The Position

Our Trades Generalist perform journey-level work in one trade, and skilled and semiskilled level work in a combination of other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment. They preform a variety of skilled and semiskilled maintenance, repair, installation and construction tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades. Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises. All Hospital positions maybe subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities. Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references. Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings. Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer. The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Requirements

Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program.
Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

Possession of a valid and current NYS driver's license.
Hospital/Healthcare setting experience.

Responsibilities

Working knowledge of methods, material, tools and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which assigned.
Working knowledge of applicable standards and plumbing and electrical code regulations.
Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the facility governing the activities of State wards under supervision.
Ability to use the tools, machines, equipment and material of the craft or crafts to which assigned.
Ability to train and supervise others.
Ability to plan and lay out work and diagnose problems.
Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
