About The Position

CoBank interns get real-life exposure to the daily duties of their group. They spend the summer as a valued member of their respective team, learning business skills and assisting with a variety of projects that have an impact on the bank’s operations. An additional focus of the summer intern will be to complete a capstone project that will seek to add value to the team they are supporting. Over your 10-week paid internship, the Trade Services & Finance Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting international trade finance operations and financial control activities at CoBank. The intern will work closely with Trade Services, Trade Finance and Operations teams to support initiatives that improve operational efficiency and customer experience. The intern will assist with projects involving Letters of Credit, Supply Chain Finance, Documentary Collections, Direct Trade Loans, reconciliation processes, operational reporting, and process improvement initiatives. They will gain exposure to how trade finance products support CoBank customers while developing an understanding of the financial, operational, and risk management frameworks that support these activities. Throughout the internship, the intern will have opportunities to: Support analysis of operational data to identify trends, process improvement opportunities, and business insights. Assist with reconciliation, reporting, and control activities designed to ensure data integrity and operational effectiveness. Participate in cross-functional meetings with Trade Services, Trade Finance, Operations, TDI/TMO teams. Support customer experience and process improvement initiatives related to international trade finance products. Learn banking systems and tools used to support trade finance and financial operations. Assist with documentation of business processes, procedures, controls, and workflow enhancements. Collaborate on strategic projects involving automation, dashboarding, reporting, and operational transformation initiatives. The intern will have regular interaction with business leaders and subject matter experts, providing insight into how operational, financial, and customer-focused decisions are made within a cooperative bank. At the conclusion of the internship, the intern will present a capstone project summarizing observations, recommendations, and potential improvements related to a business challenge or strategic initiative identified during the internship. This role is hybrid, interns will come into their designated office at least 3 days a week. Interns work approximately 40-hours per week.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in and working toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in International/Global Business or Finance, International Commerce, International Economics, Business Administration, Economics, International Business, Data Analytics, Accounting, Supply Chain Management (SCM) or a related discipline and in good academic standing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to research and analyze information across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in banking, finance, international trade, operations, process improvement, or data analytics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, SQL, or other reporting/analytics tools is a plus.
