The Building Inspector will work with all unincorporated areas of Wake County, the Wake County Public School System, and for the Towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon. You can join our team multiple ways. As a General Trade Inspector Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $27.20/hr. to $42.63/hr. Two years’ experience in the trades industry. Note: If you hold a 4-year degree in an architectural, engineering or construction-related field you can qualify for a probationary level II certificate. As a Senior Trade Inspector Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $30.34/hr. to $51.58/hr. You will spend most of your time in the field with limited supervision Assist customers by reviewing construction plans to verify compliance with the North Carolina Technical Codes and Wake County ordinances Answer questions related to building codes, and Wake County procedures, policies, and development ordinances Troubleshoot site development issues and collaborate in pre-submittal meetings Regular communication with architects, engineers, and designers to eliminate possible code violations Work directly with homeowners to help them understand the various requirements Inspectors are based out of one of three Regional Centers located throughout the County. About Our Team The Wake County Planning & Development Services Department exists to ensure that growth and development are managed responsibly by preserving the outstanding quality of life that all Wake County residents expect. As the population and economy continue to grow in Wake County, the need for this approach increases. The Department is the County’s leading resource for administering the County’s regulations pertaining to land development. This work is guided by the County’s Unified Development Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan, Stormwater Regulations, and North Carolina Building Code. The Department includes various work groups to advance development in Wake County’s jurisdiction. Those groups include building permitting and inspections, stormwater, watershed management, planning and zoning. The department is also instrumental in convening stakeholders that have common interests in advanced land development projects. The stakeholders may include regional agencies related to transportation, stormwater, watershed management, or other planning efforts. As such, team members are skilled at outreach and engagement practices. Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Five years of experience in the construction industry
Standard Level III Code Official Certification required in one of the Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical (PM&E) trades upon hire and remaining two PM&E trades within four years
