About The Position

This position is a member of the Global Trade Compliance team providing daily operational execution to support the import and export operations of Bunzl Retail Services (BRS), including responsibility for the maintenance of trade compliance functions globally. The Trade Compliance Specialist drives compliance by managing the flow of international documentation, providing support on trade compliance initiatives, and acting as a resource for cross-functional areas.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years trade compliance or international business experience
  • Experience in HTS classification, customs valuation, and country of origin determination
  • Familiarity with international logistics and shipping preferred
  • Detailed-oriented with strong written and verbal communication
  • Well-developed organizational, priority management and planning skills
  • Proven problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Outstanding attention to detail, flexibility and creativity
  • Persistence coupled with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment, work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review import and export documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Interface with freight forwarders, customs brokers and other trade compliance-related third-party service providers.
  • Sustain the HTS classification program and assist in the maintenance of a classification database.
  • Manage record keeping processes and archiving of entry records.
  • Free trade agreement program management, including vendor certificate solicitations.
  • Oversee the entry auditing program, including review of valuation, classification, and country of origin.
  • Provide resolution on Partner Government Agency (PGA) requests, including research and review of regulations.
  • Coordinate and transmit routing instructions to freight forwarders, brokers and foreign entities as needed.
  • Manage the restricted party screening program and the resolution of potential match issues.
  • Navigate research in customs regulations globally to resolve and address issues.
  • Provide trade compliance knowledge and support to other functional areas of the company, including education and training.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business groups to process international shipments per standard compliance procedures.
