About The Position

The Tractor Trailer Driver transports, delivers, and retrieves construction and heavy equipment while supporting branch operations in a professional, safe, and timely manner. The role operates commercial and non-commercial vehicles and is expected to meet high quality standards in the branch and in the field, demonstrating mastery of operating standards at facility, regional, and corporate levels. Drivers work with customers, branch management, and central dispatch to coordinate deliveries and pickups; inspect vehicles; secure equipment; maintain required documents and logs; and follow Department of Transportation policies and safety rules. The position involves working indoors and outdoors as needed, operating large, heavy machinery, and performing physically demanding tasks.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 2 years of tractor trailer driving experience within the last three years.
Commercial Driver's License, Class A, with tanker endorsement.
Current medical card.
Obtain a Hazmat endorsement within 120 days of employment; assistance will be provided.
Ability to operate large, heavy machinery.
Ability to secure loads safely.
Customer service skills.
Ability to safely lift 50 pounds frequently.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors when required.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks and stretch, turn, twist, reach overhead, bend, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for extended periods.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

Responsibilities

Transport, deliver, and retrieve assorted construction and heavy equipment.
Operate commercial or non-commercial vehicles safely, efficiently, and professionally.
Promote professionalism and an excellent customer-service attitude.
Perform vehicle inspections before and after pickups and deliveries.
Maintain delivery documents during the workday and make them available for inspection upon request.
Apply driving and commercial driving skills in difficult locations and conditions, including heavy traffic, inclement weather, mountainous terrain, and tight loading dock areas.
Secure equipment using chains, straps, and blocking in accordance with established DOT procedures.
Maintain open communication with the Branch Manager and/or central dispatch regarding delivery schedules.
Observe safety rules and regulations at customer job sites, facilities, and other Herc Rentals-related facilities.
Answer customer questions and provide training assistance regarding safe operation of vehicles, tools, or machinery when asked.
Report damage to Herc Rentals property discovered during equipment pickups to the Branch Manager or Central Dispatch.
Report all accidents involving the driver or equipment to the Branch Manager or Central Dispatch.
Promptly report delays caused by breakdowns, weather, traffic, or other issues affecting timely pickups or deliveries.
Maintain flexibility in the daily routine to respond to management's responses to customer demands.
Accurately maintain required paperwork and logs on a daily basis.
