Staff TPS Engineer

Astronics Corporation•Orlando, FL

About The Position

Astronics Test Systems is seeking a highly motivated TPS Engineer to develop software and hardware solutions for customer and internal testing. The role supports parametric, functional, and diagnostic testing of units under test (UUTs), including communication electronic assemblies, military tactical radios, amplifiers, and Astronics test equipment. Daily work includes understanding and capturing customer requirements, defining automated test scenarios, implementing them in code, and developing and integrating cables. The engineer analyzes technical documentation, schematics, and UUT behavior to determine test requirements; designs wiring harnesses and accessories; develops automated test suites; executes tests; and troubleshoots failures. The position also involves analyzing results, mentoring less experienced engineers, and potentially interacting with customers. The position is not remote.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand electronic schematics and assembly drawings.
  • Extensive experience with software development and writing automated test programs.
  • Knowledge of basic electronic components and the ability to determine their operation using component datasheets.
  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and recommending corrective actions for test failures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate understanding of RF parametric measurement principles.
  • Programming knowledge in C#, C++, Python, or similar object-oriented languages.
  • Experience with test equipment, including RF spectrum analyzers, RF generators, RF receivers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience or equivalent background in a similar field.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze OEM technical documentation, schematics, and UUT behavior to determine test requirements.
  • Design wiring harnesses and accessories, including generating electrical schematics or wire lists and bills of material to connect UUT I/O to Astronics test-station I/O.
  • Determine required components and assist with their procurement.
  • Develop automated test suites to apply stimulus to UUTs and measure their outputs.
  • Debug and troubleshoot failures during development and those reported by end users, using external test and measurement equipment and software debugging tools.
  • Execute manual and automated tests to verify product functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Analyze test results and identify the root causes of failures.
  • Use revision-control software for source code and document data, and use project-management, issue- and bug-tracking, and workflow-automation tools.
  • Support and mentor less experienced engineers in tactical and airborne communication equipment, RF parametric measurements, and troubleshooting.
  • Interface with customers when required.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance.
  • Flexible spending account (FSA) and health savings account (HSA).
  • Voluntary life/AD&D, critical illness, accident prevention, and hospital indemnity coverage.
