About The Position

The Nebraska Tourism Commission is seeking a qualified candidate to assist communities in growing tourism on a local and statewide level through a variety of educational components including, but not limited to, informative webinars, industry conferences and pop-up events, and hosting hospitality educational sessions across the state.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline related to the work assigned. Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
  • Regular travel for busy travel seasons and conferences.
  • Must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Knowledge of the tourism industry in general as well as project management procedures, principles and techniques of public relations, the organizational structure, functions, policies and programs of the agency, Nebraska and its local and state governmental operations and economy, and of available funding sources.
  • Skilled in interacting with and gaining cooperation of community leaders and the public, guiding and advising government officials in solving problems, and relating well with a diverse public.
  • Skilled in persuading others to adopt programs, and in presenting written, oral and visual presentations to groups and individuals.
  • Ability to travel regularly to both in state and potentially out of state locations to attend conferences and job-related workshops.
  • Occasional overnight travel and a Nebraska driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an intricate networking steward with the goal to increase tourism outreach efforts, build awareness of tourism within the state of Nebraska, and expand visibility for the tourism industry through partnerships with county officials, municipalities, Chambers of Commerce, visitor bureaus, civic and tourism industry leaders, and related organizations.
  • Interact with Commission board members to create alliances, build partnerships to further the agency’s strategic plan, and increase positive consumer sentiment.
  • Plan and oversee all aspects of the annual Nebraska Tourism Conference, including working with a conference committee to select speakers, seeking bids through requests for proposals for future conferences, recruiting sponsors, researching potential trends to showcase at future conferences and creating and maintaining a conference budget with accurate records for total cost of every aspect – including vendors, food, flights, hotels, registration and more.
  • Serve as the commission’s representative at community educational events.
  • Coordinate educational webinars for industry partners.
  • Work to plan annual Travel and Tourism week events.
  • Develop new programs and happenings in response to the interests of the Nebraska tourism industry.
  • Compile and analyze data, prepare reports for planning and decision-making.
  • Oversee agency inventory of merchandise and wholesale operations.
  • Monitor agency-related legislation as it pertains to the tourism industry in the state.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
