About The Position

This role involves routine servicing, major functional repair, and maintenance of vehicles. The mechanic will perform work as outlined on repair work orders with efficiency and accuracy, adhering to department standards. This includes teardown and inspection for additional repairs, advising the body shop foreman of any issues or delays, and road testing vehicles to ensure quality repair. The position also requires supervising apprentice technicians, maintaining a clean shop area, and adhering to safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Experience with routine servicing and major functional repair/maintenance of vehicles.
  • Ability to perform work as outlined on repair work orders with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Skill in teardown and inspection for additional or hidden repairs.
  • Ability to advise body shop Foreman of additional damage, supplemental needs, or if repairs will not be completed on time.
  • Proficiency in road testing vehicles to ensure quality repair.
  • Experience supervising apprentice technicians.
  • Knowledge of keeping shop area neat and clean.
  • Understanding of and adherence to Federal, State, and Local regulations, including those governing the storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Expertise in electrical repairs/replacements on 12 and 24-volt systems (fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, controls, switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, defective cables and wiring).
  • Proficiency in replacing exhaust and emissions control components (mufflers, manifolds, catalytic converters, turbochargers, blowers, and pipes).
  • Skill in repairing or replacing heating and air conditioning components (heater cores, condensers, compressors, hoses, and controls) and recharging air conditioning systems.
  • Ability to repair or replace hydraulic components (pumps, hoses, valves, winches and cylinders).
  • Experience creating work orders in Maximo and documenting work and parts used.

  • Wear appropriate eye, ear, and back protection.
  • Follow Federal, State, and Local regulations, including those for hazardous materials.
