About The Position

Topman - Pipelayer - Water and Sewer Sureway Construction is one of Alberta’s largest heavy construction contractors, with over 50 years’ experience, involved in; civil earthworks and grading, utilities and offsite, mine operation and aggregate extraction. Requirements

  • Personal Reliable Vehicle
  • CSA approved steel toed boots with 6” ankle support
  • Valid Driver’s License (non GDL)
  • Drug and alcohol testing (swab-based test)
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and site-specific orientation
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a pipelayer.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Topman/ Pipelayer in Water and Sewer.
  • Experience Shooting grades with a Rod and Level.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding work conditions

Responsibilities

  • Inspection of materials and piping.
  • Oversee installation of piping in the trench.
  • Complete checks on grade and alignment.
  • Shoot with a rod and level.
  • Shoot grade with transit.
  • Direct and signal heavy equipment operators.
  • Install and repair a variety of water and sewer lines.
  • Perform manual and labour intensive tasks as assigned.
  • Direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade.
  • Level top surface according to grade and depth specification.
  • Load and unload tools, materials and equipment.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Directs activities within the trench to ensure the pipe is laid to the designed vertical and horizontal tolerances using levels or lasers.
  • Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding, cementing or sealing with glue.
  • Monitors backfill of pipe bedding to ensure proper haunch support.
  • Assist in lot servicing and all other duties as required by Foreman.
  • Install and repair sanitary and storm water, sewer structures and pipe systems.
