About The Position

The Toolmaker III constructs, reworks, repairs, inspects, and modifies a wide range of tools using Engineering and Tool Design drawings and verbal or written instructions. The role sets up and operates tool shop machinery and equipment, plans and lays out work, coordinates interrelated tooling, and performs material and machine-cutter calculations. The Toolmaker III checks work against specifications, proves out new and reworked tools, communicates work-order status, and maintains and inspects tooling fixtures and related equipment. The position also leads one to two lower-level toolmakers.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Five years of tooling experience and/or relevant training.
Valid driver's license.
Conventional machining experience.
Understand and apply shop math.
Ability to read and understand complex blueprints, sketches, verbal instructions, and tool design.
Understand Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing.
Proficient in operating all tool shop machinery and using precision measuring devices.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Responsibilities

Set up and proficiently operate tool shop machinery and equipment to fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair tools from Engineering and/or Tool Design drawings.
Lead one to two lower-level toolmakers.
Plan and lay out work from Engineering and Tool Design drawings and specific manuals.
Coordinate interrelated tooling along with the primary task.
Perform calculations for materials and machine cutters, including speeds and feeds.
Set up and use precision measuring tools, and check work for conformance to specifications.
Set up and conduct tool prove-out on new and reworked tools.
Communicate work-order status and completion of work to others.
Repair and maintain tooling fixtures, scaffolding, dollies, hoists, and test equipment.
Conduct visual and periodic inspections and proof loads on tooling.
Comply with safety regulations.
Operate a cart and forklift.
Perform other duties as assigned.
