About The Position

Rebuild and repair production equipment, rebuild tooling, to improve their running condition, along with working on molds and dies that are running in machines in the production area. This role is part of the Maintenance Department at the OKOK Oklahoma City Plant. The Tooling Technician will be responsible for repairing and rebuilding production machinery, including molds and dies, and making components or changes to existing components according to engineered drawings. They will also assist in planning shop work and coordinating with outside vendors, ensuring efficient operation of machinery during production, and performing mold cleaning with necessary repairs. The role involves analyzing specifications, setting up and operating machine tools, fitting and assembling parts, and verifying dimensions of finished products using various measuring instruments. Additionally, the technician will operate metal or plastic forming and grinding equipment and assist other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school education / GED equivalent.
  • Must be a Certified Journeyman Tool Maker or willing to complete an apprenticeship program.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift in high traffic, low clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and rebuild Production machinery including molds and dies.
  • Make components and changes to existing components in a timely manner and correct them to an engineered drawing.
  • Assist the Group Leaders and Lead people in planning work in the shop and sending work to outside vendors.
  • Keep the machines running as efficiently as possible while they are running in production.
  • Perform mold cleaning with repairs that are needed.
  • Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
  • Operate metal or plastic forming and grinding equipment.
  • Assist other departments where your skills are needed.
  • Document machined parts with an inspection sheet.
  • Keep the Tool Room area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Record in the JDE PEM for PM’s and or Lotus Notes work order system any maintenance that is completed on every mold.
  • Inform the Scheduling Department when there is a mold problem that is going to be down for any length of time.
