About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Tooling Mechanic Quality Inspector to support the Tooling & Emergent Operations Quality Team in Berkeley, MO! Inspectors in this position perform inspections of fabricated special tools and periodic inspection of tooling used for product acceptance. They use verify conformance with applicable drawings, specifications, quality standards, manufacturing plans workmanship, and document any non-conformance. Inspectors will perform audit/surveillance of all processes as required and may provide instruction and OJT for other employees.

Requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience as a Quality Inspector
  • 1+ years’ experience working in a tooling, manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • 1+ years’ experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)
  • 1+ years’ of experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite and/or other specialized computer applications
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain an interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required

Nice To Haves

  • Technical trade school certificate or degree, or completion of an appropriate apprenticeship
  • Experience in aerospace tool and part fabrication
  • 3+ years of experience performing quality inspections on machined parts and mechanical assemblies
  • 3+ years of experience conducting inspections using ASME standards for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection and process monitoring of tool fabrication to ensure tools are built according to applicable drawings, specifications, and procedures
  • Conduct periodic tooling inspections using both physical and digital definitions, interpreting data to verify tooling compliance
  • Utilize and interpret 3D measurement and analysis systems and software, such as Laser Trackers, Romer Arms, and Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM)
  • Conduct precision measurement inspections for first article inspections or production validations, checking parts against 3D models, blueprints, or quality inspection plans
  • Obtain and review applicable tool drawings, engineering drawings, Model Based Definition (MBD) information, and specifications to perform assigned tasks
  • Identify, investigate, and document nonconformances of materials, hardware, tools, or tool assemblies according to specifications, processes, and procedures, using appropriate computing applications
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external organizations (e.g., engineering, planning, fabrication/operations) to provide clarification or additional information as needed
  • Perform audits and surveillance of tool and part fabrication processes in accordance with documented specifications, processes, and procedures
  • Process and monitor non-conforming parts and assemblies with supporting documentation, including assigning rejection numbers to affected parts
  • Indicate tooling quality acceptance on appropriate paperwork and/or online systems, processing documentation as required by procedures and policies
