About The Position

Phillips Forest Products is a historic Texas business with over sixty years of operation, known for producing high-quality architectural millwork. We are seeking dedicated, team-oriented individuals to join our growing company. This is a long-term position with the potential for advancement to a supervisory role within ten years. We are looking for hardworking individuals with strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in the woodworking industry. Previous experience with wood products and managing people is preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to read prints, work independently, and complete tasks efficiently.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pay GREAT attention to detail.
  • Must be familiar with industrial equipment.
  • Must know how to operate a scanner and computer equipment.
  • Must be able to learn Autocad, Rhino or an equivalent program.
  • Must be responsible and timely.
  • Must be able to tell when a knife needs sharpening.
  • Excellent physical condition and coordination.
  • Works well with others and has a good attitude and eager to learn.
  • Ability to read prints.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities

  • Keep knives sharp at all times.
  • Clean knives and heads after each molder run.
  • Break down cutter heads and prepare the head for the next order.
  • Communicate with the molder operator concerning upcoming orders.
  • Ensure knives are waiting beside the molder before the wood arrives.
  • Create and maintain digital files for all incoming profiles, including pattern classification and number, JPG of the pattern, actual size, blank size, corresponding profiles, date of creation, and any matching profiles from other companies.
  • Create templates of profiles using a laser or pin router, ensuring they match samples exactly.
  • Create knives from templates by grinding steel.
  • Ensure the tooling room is clean, orderly, and secure at all times.
  • Maintain organization and categorization of templates and knives.
  • Prevent unauthorized personnel from entering the tooling room.
  • Ensure all doors are locked at the end of the day.
  • Prevent tools from leaving the tooling room.
  • Maintain the grinder, laser, and other machines in the tooling room.
  • Oil and grease necessary machine parts as needed.
  • Check grinding discs for wear.
  • Report any machine issues to the supervisor immediately.
