About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating various machine tools to create production tooling. The machinist will work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, requiring minimal supervision to complete tasks. A strong understanding of blueprints, GD&T, and machining processes is essential. The position also includes performing in-process inspections, troubleshooting machining issues, maintaining records, and performing routine machine maintenance. Collaboration with other teams to improve processes and adherence to safety and quality standards are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of prototype and tooling experience or evidence of mastery
  • Proficiency with machining math, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to use precision measurement tools with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of materials

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual milling machines, lathes, grinders, and other machine tools.
  • Operate conventional mills, lathes, drill presses, saws, and grinders.
  • Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to create production tooling.
  • Complete set-ups and operate equipment with minimal supervision/assistance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions.
  • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, speeds, and feeds for efficient and accurate machining.
  • Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other measuring devices.
  • Adjust machine settings to maintain tolerances and meet quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, including tool wear, material inconsistencies, and programming errors.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including job travelers, inspection reports, and equipment logs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure safe, reliable operation.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve processes.
  • Comply with all safety standards, company policies, and ISO/AS quality requirements.
  • Other duties may be added if necessary to meet business needs.
