Tooling Engineer Company: Castelion Location: Torrance, CA (in office 5 days per week) Compensation: $140,000 - $200,000 + competitive equity Employment Type: Full-time Visa Sponsorship: Not available (US citizens and green card holders) About Castelion Castelion is a modern defense production company building long-range hypersonic strike systems to close a critical national security gap. Founded in 2021 under a philosophy of "peace through deterrence," it is one of the few hypersonics companies to move beyond concepts to production, with active government contracts including a $23M+ Navy order for 50 units delivering in 2027. Castelion has raised $1B+ through its Series C. The Role Castelion is hiring Tooling Engineers (3-5+ years) to design and develop large-scale, safety-critical tooling for solid rocket motor production. You will work out how to safely move, handle and process thousands of pounds of energetic materials, designing fixtures, assemblies and environmental systems that keep precursor chemicals at the right temperature and in motion. Your work will directly enable delivery of the first 50 units to the US Navy.

Requirements

• 3-5+ years of tooling or mechanical design engineering
• Large-scale fixture and handling-equipment design
• CAD (SolidWorks, NX or CATIA), FEA, GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis
• Comfort working safely with hazardous or energetic materials
• US citizenship or green card (defense work)
• Ability to work on-site in Torrance 5 days a week

Responsibilities

• Design large-scale jigs, fixtures, molds and handling assemblies for safely moving and processing 600+ gallon, 2,000+ lb batches of oxidizer precursor chemicals.
• Engineer solutions for temperature control, material movement between buildings and safe breakdown of energetic materials for motor casting.
• Architect tooling with manufacturing, design and production teams to hit cost, quality and delivery targets.
• Lead tooling projects from concept to the production floor, including FEA validation, tolerance stack-ups and DFM.
• Mentor junior tooling engineers and technicians and ensure compliance with aerospace and defense standards.
