About The Position

The Tooling and Design Manager is responsible for the technical management and oversight of all Design and Tool Room activities. This role requires staying abreast of new technologies, supporting the budgeting, planning, acquisition, and maintenance of equipment to meet business objectives. The manager is accountable for the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of processes within the Design and Tooling areas, ensuring on-time delivery and budget compliance. Additionally, the role involves leadership responsibilities, including staff planning, hiring, training, professional development, performance management, and compensation. The manager will analyze workflow, manage work distribution, communicate policies and objectives, and promote inter-departmental collaboration. They will also provide input for resource and capital planning and participate in problem-solving and improvement initiatives across departments. Protecting confidential information and adhering to safety requirements are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum two-year vocational diploma in Machining, Tool & Die, or Moldmaking
  • Minimum 10 years mold making, CNC equipment operation, and general tool room experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years combined experience with injection molding, CNC production machining, LSR and secondary operations.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Strong problem solving and troubling shooting

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 5 years supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Strong people management skills
  • Knowledgeable in CAD/CAM

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for technical management and oversight of all Design and Tool Room activities.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and support the budgeting, planning, acquisition and maintenance of equipment required to meet business objectives.
  • Accountable for the efficiency and effectiveness of all processes utilized in the Design and Tooling areas.
  • Continually evaluate current processes and identify areas for improvement. Make recommendations and carry out the implementation of improvements.
  • Ensure processes are being followed.
  • Accountable for on-time delivery of design and tooling commitments to support development and production schedules.
  • Responsible for ensuring exceptional quality of work completed by the department that is consistent with organizational standards.
  • Responsible for budget compliance on all work within the Design and Tooling areas.
  • Responsible for the budgeting and planning of staff required to execute Donatelle’s business plan.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, professional development, performance management and compensation of personnel in support of department and organizational objectives.
  • Analyze the workflow within the Design and Tooling areas and manage the distribution and scheduling of work to ensure the most efficient use of organization resources.
  • Communicate and reinforce policies, safety issues, and organizational objectives to staff members.
  • Provide leadership through the demonstration of company values to Tooling and Design Team Member Associates through communication and personal action.
  • Facilitate and promote inter-departmental workflow and cross utilization of resources and strong relationships within Design and Tooling department and with other departments within Donatelle.
  • Responsible for providing input to resource and capital planning required to execute Donatelle’s business plan.
  • Interact with management and all other departments to participate in problem solving and to recommend potential improvements.
  • Responsibility to protect Donatelle confidential information and Intellectual Property.
  • Follow safety requirements as outlined in the safety manual.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
