About The Position

The Tool and Die Maker Apprentice supports the New Tooling department’s journeymen and assists them in the construction and testing of progressive dies, machines die components and assists in making product prototypes. This full-time, in the office, non-exempt position is in Stockton, CA.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED certificate is required
Participation in Simpson Strong-tie’s Apprenticeship program, and current enrollment in a college-level machine technology program is required
Minimum of 4 years experience in Tool & Die/Tool room machining.
Minimum of 4 years experience with precision assembly methods and techniques
Ability to communicate effectively and directly with other team members about project status and challenges.
Comfortable engaging with a wide range of personality types and working styles.
Asks questions and actively listens to work and skill instructions
Ability to keep pace with a team in a fast-paced environment that may frequently require pivoting between multiple tasks and adapting to accommodate changing shop priorities.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings & blueprints
An ability to use, create, and interpret 2D AutoCAD drawings

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 5 years experience stamping manufacturing preferred

Responsibilities

Works closely with journeymen Tool & Die Makers and other apprentices in the building of progressive stamping dies.
Assists with coordinating material and component orders and deliveries with project leads.
Reports to shop leads individual daily progress on all machining projects, die tryouts, and new die builds.
Coordinates with other team members to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
Receive training, mentorship, and guidance from Journeymen, Leads, and Machinists.
Sets a strong example of safe work practices and helps ensure that others are working safely.
