Tool Integration Electrical Engineer I/II

RYOBI•Anderson, SC
•Onsite

About The Position

Techtronic Industries is a fast-growing world leader in power tools, outdoor power equipment, accessories, and hand tools. Its TTi Anderson site supports the RYOBI and RIDGID brands and develops cordless product platforms. The Tool Integration Electrical Engineer I/II drives embedded systems design and implementation for battery-powered outdoor equipment, focusing on power electronics, motor control, sensors, switches, harnesses, and connectors. The role works through the product development process with cross-functional stakeholders, including hardware, firmware, product development, and test engineers. This position is onsite at the company headquarters in Anderson, South Carolina. Under the supervision of senior engineers, the engineer develops hardware systems for new cordless tools, supports prototype assembly and troubleshooting, and modifies embedded firmware as needed. The role uses laboratory equipment to debug and develop designs, performs experiments and simulations, analyzes data, collaborates on test plans and product trade-offs, and manages work against milestones while communicating project progress and risks. With support from the Regulatory team, the engineer helps ensure designs comply with applicable standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0.5 to 4 years of experience in embedded electronics design with strong hardware skills, including 32-bit microcontroller-based circuits. Relevant internships, co-ops, research, and hobbies may count toward overall experience.
  • Experience with engineering design tools such as PCBA schematic/layout and circuit simulation software.
  • Understanding of battery-powered tool architecture and circuits, including troubleshooting and validation of circuit changes.
  • Knowledge of electronic component selection and design trade-offs.
  • Ability to scrutinize designs for optimization, continuous improvement, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and multitasking skills, ability to exercise independent judgment, and ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a Work Breakdown Structure, drive projects to completion, communicate progress, and escalate roadblocks to management when needed.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, domestically and internationally, specifically to Vietnam.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to firmware, power electronics, EMI/EMC, and harness design.
  • Familiarity with embedded C development tools, including IDEs, compilers, and debuggers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hardware systems for new cordless tools, including PCBA hardware and wiring, and select switches, connectors, and electronic components.
  • Support prototype assembly, troubleshooting, and demonstrations to cross-functional team members.
  • Modify and expand existing embedded firmware as needed for new product offerings.
  • Use laboratory equipment to debug and develop designs.
  • Conduct experiments and simulations, analyze data, and draw concise, logical conclusions.
  • Work with other engineers to create and amend test plans for new product categories.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on trade-off discussions for new product development.
  • Create Work Breakdown Structures, drive work toward critical milestones, and communicate project progress and risk mitigation across the organization.
  • With Regulatory team support, help ensure new product designs comply with applicable standards, including UL, TÜV, CEC, CE, CPSC, and ANSI.
