About The Position

This position reports to the Manufacturing Manager - NEMA. The role involves performing essential functions as a Utility Grade 17, which includes Die Setter, Slit Line, Auto Press, Punch Press, Annealing Lead, and Crane operations. The employee must be able to perform these tasks safely for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. ABB will discuss and attempt to provide reasonable accommodation if an employee is unable to perform these essential functions. The work model for the role is onsite at the St. Louis Stamping Plant.

Requirements

  • Must be able to perform Die Setter, Slit Line, Auto Press, Punch Press, Annealing Lead and Crane operations safely.
  • Must be able to perform these tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day, 5 days a week.
  • Always follow the Work Instructions.
  • Manual lifting requirements up to 50 pounds.
  • Operators will be trained on operating electric pallet truck.
  • Must know where Emergency Stops are located for the press you are running.
  • Must check Emergency Stops and light curtains to be working properly.
  • Verify the Press Release Form (QFSL-A001) is located at the press and is signed by a supervisor before running the press. Note: This must be done with each order.
  • Visually inspect parts for burrs, chips, slug marks, bent teeth and missing features.
  • Always inspect a part before running on continuous.
  • Flatness must be checked 3 times per coil. (Back-to-back flatness check)
  • Must verify inventory tags, coil #’s and blueprints match the work order.
  • Match the part to the blueprint.
  • Ability to understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training and hazard communication information.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, use a calculator.
  • Must also have the ability to read and comprehend work orders, blueprints, inventory tags, and shipping labels.
  • Ability to maintain regular work attendance, including arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the workday schedule.
  • Ability to work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Die Setter, Slit Line, Auto Press, Punch Press, Annealing Lead and Crane operations.
  • Follow Work Instructions.
  • Operate electric pallet truck.
  • Ensure Emergency Stops are functional and know their locations.
  • Check Emergency Stops and light curtains for proper operation.
  • Verify the Press Release Form (QFSL-A001) is present and signed by a supervisor before running the press for each order.
  • Visually inspect parts for defects such as burrs, chips, slug marks, bent teeth, and missing features.
  • Inspect a part before running on continuous.
  • Check flatness 3 times per coil (Back-to-back flatness check).
  • Verify inventory tags, coil #’s and blueprints match the work order.
  • Match the part to the blueprint.
  • Feed material through the straightener, feeder and up to the starting point in the die, inching the material through the die.
  • Ensure the strip receives adequate lubrication.
  • Monitor the loop between the presses and scrap conveyor.
  • Use an air wire twister to wire stacks of lamination.
  • Turn off the press, dereeler, straightener, and feeder at the end of the die run.
  • Fill out a Red Tag for all Non-Con material and move it to the non-Con area.
  • Remove the end of the coil strip from the die once the flywheel has stopped and save it to be sent to the Tool Room with the die.
  • Wipe all oil off the die and clean the area thoroughly.
  • Work safely and pay attention to surroundings.
  • Immediately report injuries, accidents, and near misses to Supervisor.
  • Operate Cranes as needed.
  • Understand and follow all ABB safety policies, safety training, and hazard communication information.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, cut resistant gloves, and safety sleeves when required.
  • Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently grip with hands, turn, push, and bend, along with occasionally reaching above shoulder level, and pulling.
  • Walk and/or stand for long periods of time and maintain a demanding production pace.
  • Utilize various hand tools, power tools, and other equipment including electric chain hoists, pneumatic shears, pneumatic wire twisters, electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks, and controls with knobs and buttons.
  • Assist in performing press-line equipment set-up and clearing of die jams.
  • Comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Read, write, use a calculator.
  • Read and comprehend work orders, blueprints, inventory tags, and shipping labels.
  • Maintain regular work attendance, arriving at work on time and remaining at work until the end of the workday schedule.
  • Work daily and weekend overtime, including overtime on short notice.
