About The Position

This position requires an experienced Tool Maker for the second shift. The role involves studying specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizing the product to determine materials and machines required for fabrication. The Tool & Die Maker will compute dimensions, plan layouts, and determine assembly methods and sequences of operations. Responsibilities include measuring, marking, and scribing metal stock for machining, setting up and operating machine tools like lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders, and verifying machined parts against specifications. The role also involves lifting and positioning machine parts, smoothing surfaces, fitting and assembling parts using hand tools, and verifying dimensions and clearances with precision instruments. Additionally, the position includes heat-treating tools or parts, examining existing dies and tools to recommend design modifications, and performing and participating in all quality initiatives. The employee must strictly adhere to all safety rules and perform other essential functions as assigned.

  • Ability to study specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions
  • Ability to visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts
  • Ability to compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations
  • Ability to measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining
  • Ability to set up and operate machine tools, such as lathes milling machine, shaper, and grinder
  • Ability to verify conformance of machined parts to specifications
  • Ability to lift machine parts manually or using hoist
  • Ability to position and secure parts on surface plate or worktable using devices such as vises, v-blocks, and angle plates
  • Ability to smooth flat and contoured surfaces, using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders
  • Ability to fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanism, using hand tools
  • Ability to verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers
  • Ability to heat-treat tools or parts
  • Ability to examine standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures
  • Ability to recommend design modifications regarding construction and modification of part
  • Ability to perform and participate in all quality initiatives
  • Ability to adhere to all safety rules

  • Smooths flat and contoured surfaces, using scrapers, abrasive stones, and power grinders, and fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanism, using hand tools.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers.
  • Heat-treats tools or parts.
  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures and recommends design modifications regarding construction and modification of part.
  • Performs and participates in all quality initiatives.
  • Performs other essential functions as assigned.
  • Strictly adheres to all safety rules.
