This role involves planning, laying out, constructing, maintaining, altering, and repairing complicated multi-station progressive, single purpose blanking, piercing and forming dies, as well as a variety of drills, holding and clamping fixtures. The position requires designing dies and making or directing the making of detailed drawings, working from drawings, sketches, samples, written and verbal instructions. It also involves visualizing the finished job, making necessary mathematical calculations, and selecting allowances for fitting and finishing. The role includes planning, laying out, and performing intricate machining operations on tool room equipment involving exacting setups and adjustments to maintain very close tolerances and skilled bench and hand operations. Experience with CNC equipment is beneficial. The responsibilities extend to determining repairs required on dies returned to the tool room, performing emergency repairs to dies in the press department, and performing any variety of die grinding, shimming, and replacement of progressive die components. Making up repair parts or machined items for special orders, trying out dies in the tool room press, suggesting changes to improve operation or reduce maintenance time, observing operation in production and diagnosing and correcting trouble are also key aspects. Preparing complex print programs utilizing higher levels of math and/or utilizing a computer programming language, instructing other employees and assisting in overcoming difficulties, and aiding in setting up any plant equipment as needed are also part of the role. Reporting faulty equipment, defective material and unusual conditions to the supervisor, and observing all prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintaining the work area in a neat and orderly condition are also expected.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman’s card or equivalent years of experience in the tool and die trade is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills necessary, with the ability to make informed decisions.
  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced; multi-tasking environment and meet operational deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated, safety and quality conscious, and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Heavy lifting required (35 lbs).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CNC equipment is beneficial.
  • Wire EDM experience preferred.
  • Lift truck operator experience preferred.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
