Requirements

  • Ability to read tool and die designs and prints
  • Basic shop math and trigonometry
  • Ability to use precise measuring equipment
  • Ability to operate all standard tool room equipment
  • Must be able to work without supervision and lead small teams as required on large and complex projects
  • Ability to train and develop apprentices
  • Individual must be self-motivated
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Individual must observe all safety regulations to ensure own and others’ safety

Nice To Haves

  • Tool & Die Maker experience 6 years (including apprenticeship) preferred
  • Crane certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • To build, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain basic and complex dies, fixtures, and all other tooling related to the manufacture and assembly of stamped, roll formed, and welded steel automobile components which meet or exceed customer requirements
  • Responsible for quality and conformance of product to customer specifications per control plans utilizing TS16949 & ISO14001 documented systems; authority to stop non-conforming processes and report same to supervisor, Quality Assurance and/or Engineering department representative
  • Work to blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions to repair and maintain both basic and complex stamping and hot stamping dies and assembly tooling
  • Support production department with tooling needs
  • Respond to shop-floor service calls in a timely manner
  • Assure safe operation and care of tool room equipment
  • Produce quality work in a timely manner
  • Assess complex tooling and equipment needs and refurbish as required
  • Troubleshoot and solve tooling problems without assistance
  • Set-up and operate all manual tool room equipment without assistance (excludes Computer Numerically Controlled [CNC] equipment)
  • Work to continuously improve tooling and reduce scrap
  • Ability to lead continuous improvement and emergency repair projects individually or within a team
  • Assist with training apprentice tool & die makers on skills required by the trade
  • Housekeeping and other activities as assigned
