About The Position

This position performs various types of precision grinding utilizing machines and their related equipment and attachments to sharpen and form cutting tools. The Tool & Cutter Grinder will utilize practical skills and knowledge in order to analyze specifications, set-up and operate machine tools, and repair cutting tools. The work requires interpreting specifications, blueprints, manufacturers' manuals, sketches, or similar documents. They will work both independently and in a team environment.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of proven experience in the tool and cutter grinder field.
Strong knowledge of tool grinding principles and techniques is required.
Possess an understanding of geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments for quality control.
Basic knowledge of troubleshooting of grinding process.
Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey information to others, both verbally and in written form.

Responsibilities

Set-up and operate various cutter and tool grinding machines to sharpen a wide variety of compound, multiple step, and special cutting tools for production work, and making special tools.
Sharpen gun drills, boring bars, broaches, endmills, cutters, reamers, and taps as well as sharpen tools and punches in ammunition division.
Manual tool grinding and/or machining with some CNC grinding.
Grind cutters and tools with minimum variation possible from specified dimension to provide tools used to maintain production tolerances as close as .0001".
Produce quality work that demonstrates pride of workmanship.
Achieve all production objectives.
Participate on problem solving teams for driving to root cause of internal and external quality failures particularly related to prevention of customer escapes.
Participate in 5s workplace organizational activities and maintain the area in good working order through sustainment activities including request for maintenance when needed for both personal space and multi-use department spaces.
Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
