About The Position

The Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness is looking to fill one dedicated Public Health Consultant to support its statewide Tobacco Use Prevention & Cessation Program (TUPCP). In this impactful role, you will collaborate with local health departments, statewide partners, and community stakeholders to reduce tobacco-related risks, advance health equity, and strengthen Ohio’s public health infrastructure. The Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness (BHIW) is comprised of programs which address prevention and improved health outcomes for Ohioans across the lifespan. BHIW includes programs that address chronic diseases, prevent and reduce injuries, promote access to health care, and reduce health disparities. Program initiatives include the promotion of healthy eating and active living, as well as the prevention of chronic diseases, tobacco use, child injuries, sexual assault, domestic violence, and drug overdoses.

Requirements

  • Option 1: 6 months experience in providing direct service and/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital and/or clinic setting (e.g., program evaluations, working with grants, developing and presenting training programs and in facilitating, working collaboratively with coalitions or groups) AND Completion of graduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field.
  • Option 2: 18 months experience in providing direct service and/or consultation in a public health, community health, hospital and/or clinic setting (e.g., program evaluations, working with grants, developing and presenting training programs and in facilitating, working collaboratively with coalitions or groups) AND Completion of undergraduate core coursework in public health, health care, health administration or related field.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Official educational transcripts are required for all post-high school educational accomplishments, coursework or degrees claimed on the application.
  • Applicants will be required to submit an official transcript prior to receiving a formal offer of employment.
  • Failure to provide transcripts within five (5) working days of being requested will cause the applicant to be eliminated from further consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation and technical assistance to local health departments, partners, and stakeholders on tobacco prevention, protection, cessation, and counter-industry strategies.
  • Monitor and evaluate program partnerships through site visits, communication, meetings, and workgroups; deliver presentations and training as needed.
  • Assess tobacco-related data and community needs to inform program planning; gather information through interviews, reports, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Assist in developing public health policies, regulations, and program interventions; represent the Tobacco Program on committees and coalitions.
  • Support contract and grant activities by reviewing applications, monitoring vendors, evaluating budgets, and coordinating training for grantees.
  • Create and contribute to communication materials, reports, summaries, and social media content; represent the program at statewide conferences.
