About The Position

The Public Health Program Associate (PHPA) will support the East Coast Hub of the Center for Mental Health Implementation Support, a SAMHSA-funded training and technical assistance center. This role focuses on helping behavioral health systems and organization leadership prepare for, implement, and sustain evidence-based mental health programs and practices. The PHPA will contribute to training, technical assistance, and capacity-building efforts that enhance organizational readiness, workforce skills, and long-term sustainability of effective mental health services across HHS Regions 3 and 4.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in Public Health, a master of science degree in Public Health or Health Education, OR a master's degree in Development Practice OR a master's degree in another field and one year of public health experience.

  • Proven ability to develop and adapt evidence based mental health training curricula and learning materials to support behavioral health leaders and program implementers in adopting, scaling, and sustaining effective practices.
  • Extensive experience planning, facilitating, and delivering interactive trainings, workshops, and learning collaboratives for behavioral health leaders and program implementers.
  • Experience providing technical assistance and coaching support to behavioral health organizations to strengthen implementation efforts and address emerging challenges.
  • Strong partnership and consultation skills to assess behavioral health organizational needs, identify implementation barriers, and tailor support strategies that promote effective adoption, scaling, and sustainability of evidence based behavioral health practices.
  • Knowledge of and experience in capacity building initiatives that strengthen behavioral health organizational readiness, workforce skills, and infrastructure.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to partner organizations within HHS Region 3 and 4; attendance at national and regional meetings and conferences is required.

Responsibilities

  • Under limited supervision, uses a basic knowledge of public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges.
  • Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.
  • Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions.
  • May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, web-based resources, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues.
  • May work with clinical study sites on patient recruitment and data collection standards.
  • Assists with data collection and data analysis.
  • Contributes to proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.
  • May assist in designing, developing, and conducting targeted training initiatives.
  • May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
