About The Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join The Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service as a Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor. Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable ill health and early death in England. Every year, an estimated 76,000 people die from a smoking related illness and many more live with tobacco related sickness. Stopping smoking therefore is one of the important decisions a person can make to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has developed a Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service to support the NHS Long Term Plan (LTP); this new Service offers behavioural support and referral to community services. The postholder will be an integral member of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service and will work with the Tobacco Dependency Lead and Specialist Nurse to provide behavioural support and treatment in relation to tobacco smoking.

Requirements

  • Good communication and motivational skills.
  • Experience of working within a health promotion / health setting.
  • Knowledge of tobacco treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Be an integral member of the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Service.
  • Work with the Tobacco Dependency Lead and Specialist Nurse to provide behavioural support and treatment in relation to tobacco smoking.
  • Complete referrals to community services to provide behavioural support and treatment in relation to tobacco smoking.
  • Ensure all people admitted to hospital who smoke will be offered NHS-funded tobacco treatment services.
  • Ensure every patient admitted to hospital and pregnant women are screened for their smoking status.
  • Ensure referred patients have an opt-out discussion with an appropriately trained Tobacco Dependency Treatment Advisor.
  • Ensure patients have access to appropriate pharmacotherapy and can agree a personalised plan to support them to quit smoking tobacco whilst in contact with NHS services and beyond.
