RTX•East Hartford, CT
•$37,000 - $82,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Commercial Lubrication and Thermal Management Systems team analyzes and develops the functional characteristics of oil systems in a complex aerospace environment. This systems-focused internship provides experience in technical systems analysis, component rig testing, and the design, execution, and analysis of full-scale engine testing. The intern will contribute to analysis and design of gas turbine lubrication and thermal management systems, use field data to monitor fleet health and support customers, and help develop and review validation testing and analytical models. The role is part of an integrated product team at the module level and contributes to the engine systems integrated product team. It interfaces with engine mechanical systems, air systems, and performance groups, offering exposure to the broader engine while making technical contributions to systems design and analysis.

Requirements

  • Be pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in a STEM degree program and remain actively enrolled through completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to aero-thermal fluids coursework and/or lab experience in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
  • Have a minimum of 60 credit hours by the start of the internship/co-op session.

Responsibilities

  • Use 1D flow modeling to analyze and design gas turbine lubrication and thermal management systems.
  • Use field data to monitor fleet health and support customers.
  • Specify engine validation test plans and review engine and test-rig data.
  • Match analytical models to engine data.
  • Optimize oil system architecture to support flight safety; provide adequate cooling and lubrication flow and pressure; manage oil storage, deaeration/deoiling, filtration and filter life; minimize oil degradation; provide cooling; and contain oil within system boundaries.
  • Independently develop system-level solutions.
