About The Position

Virginia Energy is seeking a qualified candidate to administer the statewide coal surface mining and reclamation inspection and compliance program, in accordance with Sections 45.1‑226 through 45.1‑270.7 of the Virginia Coal Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1979, as amended, and in alignment with current Virginia Energy strategic and operational plans. This program ensures that lands impacted by coal mining activities do not adversely affect the environment or public health and safety. Virginia Energy’s mission is to lead the Commonwealth to a safe, reliable and responsible energy future with greater emphasis on renewable energy programs and economic development, as well as implement the Virginia’s Energy Plan to ensure the Commonwealth has abundant, reliable, affordable and clean energy. Requirements

  • Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles related to the duties of this position.
  • Ability to interpret and apply all reclamation laws, regulations, procedures, to evaluate on-site conditions and written mining and reclamation plans, methods, systems and procedures; to prepare property description information and realty documents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Skills in use of engineering and scientific equipment (such as GPS unit, water/soil testing kits), the use of digital photographic equipment, and proficient skills with personal computers and computer systems (Microsoft Office).
  • Skilled in 4-WD vehicle operation and basic maintenance.
