About The Position

Enforces environmental violations such as litter, illegal dumping, improper refuse and recycling set out, etc. for quality of life improvements and resident health. Communicates with residents and/or property owners to clarify and resolve violations.

Requirements

  • Must submit or show proof of all general requirements at the time of application or application will be disqualified.
  • Must submit a complete application including education, work experience, a resume (if applicable) and completed supplemental questions.
  • Must become residents of the City of Pittsburgh prior to employment and remain a resident throughout employment.
  • A current, valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License (or out of state equivalent) is required at the time of submitting the application and will be verified prior to appointment to the position and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Daily use of a personal vehicle is required to perform multiple site inspections across the City of Pittsburgh.
  • Vehicle must comply with the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, including but not limited to registration, insurance, and operating condition, as a continuing condition of employment.
  • Candidates being considered for employment must submit official transcripts verifying post-secondary education (college/university, trade school, etc.) prior to hire.
  • One (1) year of full-time experience in field inspections, quality assurances, clerical work, or a related field.
  • An Associate's Degree or two (2) years of completed post-secondary education in any field.

  • Candidates may be disqualified from consideration based on the results of their background investigation, as it relates to the job for which the applicant is being considered.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and follows up on 311 requests.
  • Investigates illegal dumping hot spots on public property and on other city roadways, right of ways, and alleys prone to illegal dumping.
  • Represents the City in local court.
  • Conducts outreach via resident communication and improves public perception of City’s litter response.
  • Works cooperatively with Department of Public Works colleagues and partner agencies on timely responses to requests and proactive resolutions.
  • Stays informed of codes and ordinances affecting litter abatement.
  • Communicates with parcel owners via email and phone as it pertains to violations.
  • Performs other related tasks, duties, activities, and functions of related personnel as assigned.
