About The Position

Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking student-focused, dedicated Paraeducators to assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs (Autism, Developmental Delays, Multiple Disabilities, Learning Support and Behavior Support) whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment. Title I is a federal program that provides financial assistance to public schools and school divisions with high percentages of children from low-income families. The program's goal is to ensure that all children receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational or related setting
  • Complete two years of study at an institution of higher education; OR Obtain an Associate’s (or higher) degree; OR Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing, readiness, and mathematics readiness)

Nice To Haves

  • Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training, as appropriate, annually.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
  • Assists with evaluating and testing students
  • Works with small groups of students in various subject areas
  • Follows established procedures for monitoring student behavior when supervising small or large groups
  • Monitors students whereabouts and observe student safety
  • Performs routine clerical duties such as copying, typing, answering/making telephone calls, and basic troubleshooting
  • Performs additional non-instructional duties including, but not limited to, cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty
