About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Paraeducator for the 2026-2027 school year, serving Kalama Elementary. The role involves supporting students with disabilities under the guidance of a Special Education Teacher, assisting with lesson preparation, instruction, classroom management, student observation, assessment, and communication with parents and staff. The position is 32.5 hours per week, following a school year schedule, with an estimated start date in August 2026. Regular attendance is crucial for student consistency and a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must meet one of the following educational requirements: Associate's Degree (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position); OR 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position); OR Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  • Within three years of employment, meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392-172A-02090 (f).

Responsibilities

  • Supporting and assisting students with disabilities in various school settings.
  • Assisting the Special Education Teacher with lesson plan preparation.
  • Providing one-on-one and small group instruction.
  • Assisting with classroom management.
  • Assisting with student observation and assessment.
  • Communicating with parents and staff as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  • Supervising students.
  • Collecting data and reporting student progress.
  • Maintaining accurate data collection records.
  • Providing positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
  • Attending to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students and assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  • Participating in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Participating as a member of the education team.
  • Potentially attending parent conferences.
  • Maintaining regular attendance to carry out duties and responsibilities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Full salary range: $21.27 - $26.31 per hour.
