About The Position

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has immediate openings for Timekeepers to complete payroll within the Central Timekeeping Unit. In this position, the Timekeepers will be responsible for managing and processing employee time and attendance records, including overtime and leave requests, using CityTime and related systems. The role involves reviewing and correcting timekeeping errors, assisting employees with CityTime-related inquiries, and ensuring compliance with departmental and contractual timekeeping policies. The Timekeepers will also generate payroll reports, and handle various administrative tasks to support the department’s payroll and attendance functions.

Requirements

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing clerical, word processing or data entry duties; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in public contact work requiring the obtaining and recording of information from persons; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of active military duty; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above, but all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Process employee time and leave in CityTime in accordance with City and Agency policies to ensure full compliance.
  • Monitor and review weekly timesheets; identify discrepancies, take corrective action, and re-approve as needed.
  • Approve pay and leave events, create and assign employee schedules, and override schedules when necessary.
  • Review and approve overtime in accordance with applicable policies and agreements.
  • Monitor employee leave balances and process leave without pay when required.
  • Ensure new hires, transfers, and separations are accurately reflected in the CityTime system.
  • Run and analyze system reports related to time and pay activity; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Handle and monitor Absence and Tardiness guidelines for the command.
  • Maintain accurate records and files for all assigned employees.
