About The Position

The T&M (Time & Material) Technician within the Building Automation Systems (BAS) department supports field operations, troubleshooting efforts, remote support technicians, and service teams within automation environments. This role is designed for motivated individuals who are interested in developing a long-term career in building automation systems and controls. The T&M Technician provides field assistance while gaining experience with controls systems, BAS platforms, device communications, system integration, networking fundamentals, and commercial building technologies. This position serves as a developmental pathway into System Specialist I and future BAS technical roles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school, electronics, controls, electrical, mechanical, or related coursework preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience preferred in construction, controls, electrical, mechanical, facilities, technology systems, service, or related fields preferred.
  • An understanding of computer operating systems including MS Office Suite of products.
  • Basic mechanical and technical aptitude required.
  • Ability to use hand tools, meters, laptops, tablets, and mobile applications.
  • Basic understanding of wiring, electrical components, and troubleshooting concepts preferred.
  • Interest in learning building automation systems, controls platforms, networking, and controls logic/configuration.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics preferred.
  • Clear and concise ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to successfully pass a motor vehicle record check.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience preferred in construction, controls, electrical, mechanical, facilities, technology systems, service, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with Alerton, Distech, Honeywell, etc.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to accurately document information and maintain detailed notes

Responsibilities

  • Assist remote support technicians and field specialists during troubleshooting, service calls, and startup activities.
  • Provide on-site assistance with controllers, sensors, actuators, valves, and related building automation equipment.
  • Perform operational checks, point verification, controller replacements, and wiring verification.
  • Prepare tools, materials, documentation, and equipment needed for daily service and project work.
  • Document service activity through notes, photos, device information, inventory updates, and work records.
  • Assist with password management, device tracking, and internal operational upkeep as assigned.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
  • Learn BAS platforms, controls logic, communication protocols, and troubleshooting procedures through hands-on training and mentorship.
  • Maintain clean and organized vehicles, tools, work areas, and job sites.
  • Follow company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and job site safety expectations.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and team members.
  • Participate in after-hours support and on-call responsibilities as training progresses.
