About The Position

P2S is seeking a Part-Time Time Keeping and Reconciliation Specialist with 2+ years of experience to join their award-winning engineering firm. This role is based in Long Beach, CA, and offers a hybrid work schedule. The specialist will be responsible for maintaining knowledge of and ensuring accuracy in payroll, employee retirement, workers compensation, tax reporting, general ledger, and labor laws. They will process bi-weekly payroll, prepare payroll-related documents, balance and reconcile payrolls, manage payroll tax filings, and serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll and 401(k) questions. The position also involves identifying process improvements and acquiring in-depth knowledge of payroll systems.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school. Coursework at an accredited institution in accounting/or financial record keeping is desirable. Equivalent experience in a payroll specialist role is also considered.
  • Minimum 2+ years of payroll experience in a fast‑paced, multi‑state environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and wage and hour regulations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism
  • Proven ability to collaborate across HR and Accounting teams
  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers and keyboarding; ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains knowledge of and responsibility for a variety of areas, including but not limited to payroll, employee retirement, workers compensation, tax reporting, general ledger and labor laws
  • Ensures that payroll functions are carried out accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with legal requirements and sound financial management principles and practices
  • Processes accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Prepares and processes a variety of payroll-related documents, off‑cycle payrolls, final checks, and manual adjustments
  • Balance and reconcile payrolls, including garnishments and 401(k) administration
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax and wage and hour regulations
  • Manages payroll tax filings, payments, and other required payroll reporting
  • Partners with Accounting on monthly payroll close and payroll audits
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for employee payroll and 401(k) questions
  • Identifies opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and system efficiencies
  • Acquires and applies in-depth knowledge of complex payroll and related system functions
  • Performs other payroll‑related duties and ad hoc projects as assigned
