About The Position

This position analyzes incoming correspondence to determine proper routing within the Department of Corrections. The specialist will scan and enter required information into the correspondence tracking system, ensuring responses are provided by the due date. Responsibilities include researching and responding to correspondence via postal mail, email, or telephone, and appropriately acknowledging and responding to correspondence forwarded by elected officials, medical professionals, and related to basic time computation as assigned. The role involves contacting appropriate departments, facilities, and other agencies to gather information for responses. A key responsibility is prioritizing workload to meet correspondence response timeframes and accurately completing all hours worked and leave reports on time.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently to analyze and resolve problems with general guidance from supervisor.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend and interpret complex laws, legal documents, and policies.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in procedures, policies, and systems quickly.
  • Ability to juggle competing demands and priorities daily.
  • Knowledge of VADOC operational practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with all VADOC departments.

Responsibilities
