About The Position

The TIG Welder will weld and repair all die steels as required, supporting maintenance and the plant with welding activities. This role requires proficiency in all aspects of TIG welding, including welding various materials such as aluminum, copper, and stainless steel. The position involves working on hot items (up to 900F) for extended periods and requires the ability to preheat tool steels in an oven to the proper temperature. Responsibilities include welding and repairing damaged or worn die sets, grinding grooves in material to repair cracked details, and stress-relieving tool steels during the welding process. The role also includes maintaining a clean work environment, maintaining welding equipment and supplies, and assisting toolroom and maintenance personnel with machine repair, changeover, setup, and operation. Safely operating overhead cranes and other toolroom equipment is also part of the job. The position requires the ability to read basic measuring tools and may involve overtime as needed.

Requirements

Must be able to work & weld on hot items (up to 900F) for extended periods of time.
TIG welding knowledge and ability is required.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience TIG welding.
Must be available to work overtime as required.
Must be able to manually lift and maneuver details up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to maneuver heavy details using carts, rollers, and hook.
Must be able to read basic measuring tools (Tape measure, scale, calipers, micrometers).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence such as Emails.
Must be able to communicate with co-workers and managers in a professional and precise manner at all times and especially during high pressure situations.
Ability to define problems collect data, establish fact, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to evaluate a situation and consider all the variables without jumping to conclusions based on the most obvious variable and arrive at the real root cause.
The associate is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools or controls; reach and lift with hands and arms; talk, see and hear.
The associate is required to stay seated for long periods of time while welding.
The associate is required to wear proper clothing and PPE for MIG/TIG welding. (Fire retardant uniform, aluminized welding gloves, welding helmet, steel-toed boots, ear protection)
The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally be required to perform repetitive work tasks.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Machine trades certificate or transcripts from a trade school showing completion of a reasonable amount of class hours in related fields.

Nice To Haves

Ability to braze materials is a plus.
Ability to safely operate toolroom equipment is a plus (Mills, lathe, saw, drill press, grinder).
MIG & arc weld ability is a plus.
Journeyman’s certification (preferred).
Welding certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Weld & repair all die steels as required.
Support maintenance and plant with welding activities as required.
Be proficient in all aspects of TIG welding.
TIG weld other materials such as aluminum, copper, stainless, etc.
Weld various types of tool steels (A-2, D-2, H-13, S-7, 4140).
Weld repair damaged die sets (Casting & plate steel).
Effectively preheat tool steels in oven to proper temperature.
Weld and repair worn or broken tool steels using the proper filler rod.
Grind grooves in material to weld repair cracked details.
Stress-relieve tool steels during welding process & reheat as required.
Maintain a clean work environment.
Maintain welding equipment and supplies as needed.
Assist toolroom & maintenance personnel in machine repair, changeover, setup and operation as required.
Safely operate overhead cranes.
Work safely around all other toolroom equipment.
