About The Position

This role will work as a team member to production weld and/or weld repair castings, dies, molds, fixtures and miscellaneous equipment per weld procedures and customer specifications. The position requires the ability to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI), operate GTAW welding equipment and various hand tools, and maintain expected quality levels in a fast-paced environment. Basic computer knowledge is also necessary. The job involves welding requirements such as completing certification tests, visual acuity examinations, and formal training in Manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). Responsibilities include routing out casting defects, blending welds, welding repairs for tool rooms and maintenance, preparing surfaces, operating a hoist system, and performing production/fabrication welds. Weld blenders will also be required to prep, finish, rework, and clean welds as needed.

Must be able to successfully complete welders' certification tests in nickel, cobalt and iron-based alloy groups within (5) months of training.
Must be able to successfully complete Welder Trainee Testing Criteria.
Must pass visual acuity examination required for certified welder position.
Formalized training in Manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) required.
Mechanical ability required.
Proficiency in use of gauges and measuring skills required.
Must successfully meet Grade 3 for Prep Route Out / Weld Blend.
Must be able to successfully complete weld blend training program within (3) months unless otherwise instructed by Area Leader.
High Diploma required or GED equivalency required.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience.
Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Experience in routing out casting defects and blending welds preferred.
Previous experience in routing out casting defects and blending welds preferred.
Welding Vocational Training preferred.
Proficient in manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) with remote foot control.

Responsibilities

Operate GTAW welding equipment, hand tools (air gun, stones, burrs) argon chills, stainless steel brushes, degreaser, clamps and fixtures.
Apply weld identification.
Meet vision standards.
Perform pushing/pulling/lifting.
Function as a member of a team and work under general supervision.
Work and function in a fast-paced environment.
Maintain expected quality levels.
Successfully complete welders' certification tests in nickel, cobalt and iron-based alloy groups within (5) months of training.
Successfully complete Welder Trainee Testing Criteria.

Receive formalized training in Manual Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
Route out casting defects and blend welds.
Perform mechanical tasks.
Utilize gauges and measuring skills.
Perform weld wire test slugs for wire certification.
Perform weld repairs/fixtures for tool room.
Weld heat thermo couples for heat treat.
Perform weld for maintenance.
Weld fixtures for layout.
Monitor argon purity and repair/build argon backups.
Support of cells as needed.
Preparation of surface area for weld and/or blending as needed.
Complete and maintain paperwork.
Operate hoist system.
Perform production/fabrication weld.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Work overtime as needed.
Weld repair / production weld (fabrication weld) castings to "Class A" requirements (FPI and X-Ray acceptance).
Perform occasional maintenance and fixture welding on various alloys including aluminum.
Fabricate copper backups used to perform welds.
Operate all aspects of the production AC/DC power source and all components of the weld torch.
Determine weld wire alloy designation and sizes.
Determine allowable weld sizes and locations.
Determine correct power source parameters.
Determine gas settings for welding torch and backups.
Blend welds for repair / production weld castings.
Prep weld as needed.
Perform finishing, rework, and metal cleaning as needed associated with a Metal Cell Operator (MCO).
