About The Position

Specialty Fitters, Inc. (SFI) is an industrial gas piping contractor based in Elyria, Ohio. We build high-purity and specialty gas systems for industrial and federal research facilities across Northeast Ohio — including work at NASA test facilities. This role involves manual GTAW welding on stainless steel pipe and tubing, often schedule 80, open-root butt welds with argon back purge, welded to ASME Section IX / B31.3 standards. Some work may involve nickel alloys and specialty fittings. The position includes shop fabrication in Elyria and local field installation.

Requirements

Must pass drug and alcohol screening.
Must have a clean background check.
Local applicants only (within roughly 50 miles / one hour of Elyria, OH).
Ability to access a federal facility (badging/security screening) for the 1099 role.
Ability to pass possible random drug and alcohol tests for the 1099 role.
Must pass a weld test: 2" schedule 80 316L pipe butt weld in the GTAW process, inspected and accepted by the Director of Operations.

Nice To Haves

Experience with high-purity/aerospace/cryogenic systems.
Experience with orbital or sanitary tube work.
Experience with Monel/nickel alloys.
B31.3 process piping background.
Pipefitting skills.

Responsibilities

Perform manual GTAW (TIG) welding on stainless steel pipe, including open root, back purge, and stringer or small/light weave techniques.
Read and work to welding procedures (WPS).
Ensure welds are clean and meet quality standards, as they will be visually inspected and may undergo NDE.
Maintain high-purity work standards, preventing oil and contamination.
Work in shop and field environments, performing welding in all positions (6G capability).
