Augsburg’s THRIVE Program, formerly known as EAST (East African Students to Teachers), is for BIPOC students at Augsburg University pursuing a degree in K-12 education. THRIVE aims to support students in all aspects of their higher education experience. THRIVE is committed to recruiting, engaging, and retaining student teachers of color through student development, critical mentorship, networking opportunities, and civic engagement activities. The mission is to not only ensure student teachers of color successfully transition into Augsburg but also thrive academically, professionally, and socially. We strive to empower, celebrate, and support students as they create a solid personal foundation and nurture a sense of belonging.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled at Augsburg University
  • Must be tech savvy (or willing to learn) in Google Suites, Canva.com, Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to engage and interact with students, faculty, and staff
  • Analyze and present quality over quantity in assigned tasks and possible office needs
  • Must maintain the privacy of sensitive student information, as required by federal FERPA law
  • Must exhibit effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow directions and execute tasks in a timely manner

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome students, faculty, and staff at the front desk
  • Assist in managing the THRIVE Department calendar
  • Initiate, receive, and respond to email and phone correspondence
  • Support administrative duties such as data entry, maintenance of supplies, and as-needed
  • Maintain an organized and clean shared space for all
  • Support in Social Media posts and engaging on social media platforms
  • Support for events and programming upon request
  • Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion through body language and demeanor
  • Assist the THRIVE Program Managers with specific projects like the Speakers Series, Social gatherings, etc.
