About The Position

The Thrift Store Clerk helps maintain the store at standard operating levels and completes daily duties and responsibilities. The role includes processing, pricing, organizing, and stocking merchandise; maintaining a clean store; operating the cash register; and providing courteous customer service consistent with The Salvation Army’s mission. Employees are expected not to undermine the organization’s religious mission. The position has no supervisory responsibilities and requires successful completion of applicable background checks and Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to be flexible and handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to access payroll, timekeeping, and personal data through a web-based system.
• Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
• Strong independent judgment.
• Must pass all applicable background checks.
• Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements, including good speaking, hearing, and vision; excellent manual dexterity; standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods; operating office equipment; and occasionally lifting or moving more than 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Retail and/or cash register experience is preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep shelves and clothing racks stocked and organized to promote sales.
• Assist the management team with investigating and appropriately pricing items for sale, as needed.
• Process merchandise efficiently and properly according to established standards.
• Stock merchandise on racks, shelves, counters, and tables.
• Learn and train on the entire processing system, including the cash register.
• Maintain clean shelves, counters, tables, and other areas throughout the store.
• Wrap and bag merchandise for customers when needed.
• Provide polite, prompt, and courteous customer service in keeping with The Salvation Army’s mission.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
