About The Position

This role involves sorting product, preparing items for sale, and assisting customers with their purchases within store guidelines. The position requires operating a cash register, maintaining accurate financial records, receiving and selecting merchandise for sale, and potentially pricing items. Responsibilities also include maintaining merchandise displays, rotating stock, answering customer questions, and assisting with the overall appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the store area. The job may involve supervising volunteers and community service workers. Occasional travel may be required to accompany the Thrift Store driver on a pickup run.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand basic written materials.
  • Communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to handle basic cash transactions.
  • High school academic background preferred.
  • Prior sales experience or working with people in a service capacity preferred.
  • Ability to perform the duties of lifting, pulling, and pushing of merchandise up to 25 pounds.
  • Sitting up to 2-3 hours per day.
  • Standing up to 4-6 hours per day.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate cash register and keep accurate financial records, reporting discrepancies to the store manager.
  • Receive and select merchandise for sale from donated items.
  • Price items within prescribed guidelines.
  • Maintain merchandise displays in a neat and orderly appearance and transfer stock to maintain fresh marketing appeal.
  • Rotate stock as directed by the store manager.
  • Answer customer questions and assist store customers.
  • Keep a record of sales and inventory.
  • Assist in maintaining the overall appearance, cleanliness, and safe conditions in the store area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
