About The Position

Operates thermoforming machines, trim presses, and immediate support equipment safely and efficiently to produce high-quality products while minimizing scrap and downtime. The role includes preparing, starting, monitoring, troubleshooting, and cleaning production equipment; inspecting finished products; documenting process information; and coordinating with other departments. The employee must follow safety practices and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), wear required PPE, and be trained in knife safety. This is a full-time position at a 24/7 facility, with varying hours and shifts and possible overtime; work may include weekdays and weekends. Good attendance is required.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Valid State of Michigan driver’s license.
Valid forklift license or ability to obtain one, and a safe driving record.
Valid aerial lift license, excluding boom lift.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policies, procedures, quality specifications, written reports, and correspondence.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide small units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out written, oral, and diagram-based instructions and address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to stand in a designated area for long periods; lift 30 pounds regularly without assistance and heavier weights with assistance; occasionally lift 30 pounds above shoulder height; stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, crouch, reach and twist; occasionally climb stairs and ladders; pull loaded non-powered pallet jacks carrying up to 1,000 pounds of material; work on platforms at various heights; grip small parts; and twist hands at the wrist while gripping or carrying items.
Close, peripheral, distance, depth, and color vision, with the ability to adjust focus.
Sufficient hearing to notice sirens and horns that alert people to danger.
Wear required PPE, follow GMPs, and complete knife safety training.
Ability to work varying hours and shifts, including possible overtime and weekday and weekend work.

Nice To Haves

Previous forklift driving experience.
Previous grinder experience.
One to two years of previous thermoforming experience.

Responsibilities

Work safely and apply safe practices at all times.
Remove and install form tool inserts when applicable.
Verify and document equipment settings, process settings, and product specifications before startup or taking over a line.
Start up the former, trim press, and support equipment safely and efficiently.
Operate the former according to predetermined parameter settings for the specific job.
Troubleshoot forming, trimming, lip roller, and bagging processes by identifying, analyzing, and correcting problems.
Immediately notify Packers and QA about defective product.
Routinely inspect finished product and record inspections.
Accurately record process data, including downtime, on daily shift or project reports and forward reports to the Supervisor.
Communicate and coordinate activities with appropriate personnel inside and outside the department, including Maintenance, Warehouse, Tooling, and QA.
Perform Line Clearance at the end of each production run and before starting the next job.
Identify and label film, corrugate, and other process materials.
Perform general housekeeping tasks throughout the plant as assigned.
Clean the former, trim press, and immediate support equipment, and continuously maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Comply with all General Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
Apply knowledge to improve production processes and procedures within established standards.
Maintain good attendance.
