About The Position

Federal Staffing Solutions is seeking a Thermal Engineer to support our client in Boulder, CO. This role involves the thermal design and analysis of spacecraft and precision aerospace electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical flight hardware systems, cryo systems, antenna communication systems, tactical systems, components, and ground support equipment from concept through detail design and testing. The engineer will develop thermal loads and environments, model extensively in Thermal Desktop, and perform various analyses including steady state and transient thermal math modeling, heat transfer coefficient computation, and heat flow calculations. The position also includes designing and developing thermal environmental tests, supporting testing, writing detailed reports, reviewing drawings, and communicating technical aspects of projects. The role requires working in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment and potentially leading small teams.

  • Proficiency in Thermal Desktop (preferred version 26R2)

Responsibilities

  • Thermal design and analysis of spacecraft and/or precision aerospace electro-mechanical, and/or opto-mechanical flight hardware systems, cryo systems, antenna communication systems, tactical systems, components and/or ground support equipment from concept through detail design and testing
  • Develop thermal loads and environments for hardware (spacecraft, instruments, etc.)
  • Model extensively in Thermal Desktop (preferred version 26R2)
  • Perform steady state and transient thermal math modeling, computation of heat transfer coefficients, and heat flow calculations
  • Conduct analyses including SV level thermal distortion, thermal radiator and heat pipe sizing/design trade studies, high thermal conductivity plate modeling/design, solar array model development and analysis, SV heater sizing/design/placement, ambient testing analysis, general SV level modeling and analysis, propulsion level design/analysis, propulsion system heater sizing/design/placement, battery level thermal analysis, and battery heater sizing/design/placement
  • Requirements verification
  • Design/develop thermal environmental tests required to satisfy requirements (in air and/or vacuum)
  • Support thermal environmental testing
  • Write detailed reports for test and analysis activities, presentations to customers and/or program team and development of engineering reports and/or test procedures
  • Review drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness, compatibility, producibility, and correctness
  • Communicate the technical and programmatic aspects of a project to the team and customer
  • Promote development of a strong team by participating in key aspects of a project
  • Lead small teams (up to five engineers) to design, develop and deliver a thermal control system
  • Work in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) design environment with other engineering disciplines
  • Responsible for meeting program cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Maintain and update required records and reports
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company
