Requirements

  • Top Secret clearance
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop (preferred version 26R2)
  • Experience with steady state and transient thermal math modeling
  • Experience with computation of heat transfer coefficients
  • Experience with heat flow calculations
  • Experience with Space Vehicle (SV) level thermal distortion analysis
  • Experience with Thermal radiator and heat pipe sizing/design trade studies
  • Experience with High thermal conductivity plate modeling/design
  • Experience with Solar array model development and analysis
  • Experience with SV Heater sizing, design and placement including control sensor locations
  • Experience with Ambient testing analysis
  • Experience with General SV level modeling and analysis
  • Experience with Propulsion level design/analysis
  • Experience with Propulsion system heater sizing, design and placement including control sensor locations
  • Experience with Battery level thermal analysis
  • Experience with Battery heater sizing, design and placement including control sensor locations
  • Experience with Requirements verification
  • Experience designing/developing thermal environmental tests required to satisfy requirements (in air and/or vacuum)
  • Experience supporting thermal environmental testing
  • Experience writing detailed reports for test and analysis activities
  • Experience creating presentations to customers and/or program team
  • Experience developing engineering reports and/or test procedures
  • Experience reviewing drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness, compatibility, producibility, and correctness
  • Ability to communicate the technical and programmatic aspects of a project to the team and customer
  • Ability to lead small teams (up to five engineers) to design, develop and deliver a thermal control system
  • Experience working in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) design environment with other engineering disciplines such as Systems, Electrical, Project, Production, M&P, Quality and Cryogenic Engineering
  • Responsible for meeting program cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Ability to maintain and update required records and reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment

Responsibilities

  • Thermal design and analysis of spacecraft and/or precision aerospace electro-mechanical, and/or opto-mechanical flight hardware systems, cryo systems, antenna communication systems, tactical systems, components and/or ground support equipment from concept through detail design and testing
  • Develop thermal loads and environments for hardware (spacecraft, instruments, etc.)
  • Model extensively in Thermal Desktop (preferred version 26R2)
  • Modeling tasks may include steady state and transient thermal math modeling, computation of heat transfer coefficients, and heat flow calculations.
  • Potential analyses include: Space Vehicle (SV) level thermal distortion analysis, Thermal radiator and heat pipe sizing/design trade studies, High thermal conductivity plate modeling/design, Solar array model development and analysis, SV Heater sizing, design and placement including control sensor locations, Ambient testing analysis, General SV level modeling and analysis, Propulsion level design/analysis, Propulsion system heater sizing, design and placement including control sensor locations, Battery level thermal analysis, Battery heater sizing, design and placement including control sensor locations, Requirements verification
  • Design/develop thermal environmental tests required to satisfy requirements (in air and/or vacuum)
  • Support thermal environmental testing
  • Write detailed reports for test and analysis activities, presentations to customers and/or program team and development of engineering reports and/or test procedures
  • Review drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness, compatibility, producibility, and correctness
  • Communicate the technical and programmatic aspects of a project to the team and customer
  • Promote development of a strong team by participating in key aspects of a project
  • Lead small teams (up to five engineers) to design, develop and deliver a thermal control system
  • Work in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) design environment with other engineering disciplines such as Systems, Electrical, Project, Production, M&P, Quality and Cryogenic Engineering
  • Responsible for meeting program cost, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Maintain and update required records and reports
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment
  • Work on-site Monday through Friday, five (5) days per week unless test support requires 24/7 coverage
  • Deliverables: Thermal Desktop 26R2 including .dwg, .rco and .tdp
  • Deliverables: PowerPoint results summary and comparison with supporting Excel spreadsheet file
  • Deliverables: PowerPoint document of modeling approach, assumptions and model physical attributes (optical properties, capacitance, conductivities, MLI effective emittance)
  • Deliverables: For each assigned task, provide an engineering report defining effort and results
