This entry-level/early-career applied science position applies and advances thermal and fluid science methods to assess the performance and architecture of systems and components. The work uses analytical and experimental approaches to inform decisions and produce technical content supporting effective, competitive, and environmentally friendly products. The role focuses on executing new-product-development tests for Cummins engine platforms in standard dynamometer test cells, including running CVS, RTE, or development test cells. The test operation is described as 24/7/365. The position is onsite with flexibility and is approximately 60% onsite. The usual time on this team is roughly two years before transitioning to another role outside the group. The experience may provide a foundation for a future role in CPE. The engineer investigates thermal- and fluid-science problems, identifies causal mechanisms, recommends actions, owns problem resolution with guidance as needed, and documents results. They use relevant analysis, simulation, testing, calibration, and data tools; collaborate with technical and project stakeholders; and provide recommendations for project decisions, further analysis, design optimization, feasibility studies, and architecture definition. The role independently executes established processes while continuing to develop product and technology knowledge and contributing to process improvement. It involves minimal direct people management, though it may include coordinating technicians or temporary student employees.
