About The Position

This position is responsible for organizing and coordinating the daily schedule of the pool, transporting patients to and from aquatic therapy sessions, and performing routine upkeep of the pool area. The Therapy Aide will also perform other job-related departmental duties when not engaged in the aquatic therapy program. The role requires understanding and promoting Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values, and ensuring application with organizational policies and procedures. Key functions include assisting patients with swimwear, showering, and participating in therapy sessions under the supervision of therapists. Maintenance of the pool area, including disinfecting toys, rinsing bathing suits, and managing supplies, is also a core responsibility. Additionally, the aide will assist in the physical, speech, and occupational therapy departments with patient treatment, sanitizing equipment, and performing clerical duties as needed. Compliance with all ESCR, Inc. policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, infection control, confidentiality, customer service, attendance, and professional conduct is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required.
  • Training and/or academic credit in the field of biological sciences and child development.
  • Must maintain current CPR certification.
  • Experience in clinical pediatric environment.
  • Ability to take direction and supervision from a registered physical or occupational therapist, or speech Language Pathologist.
  • Appropriate verbal communication skills to maintain ongoing and professional interactions with patient’s families and staff
  • Must meet or exceed all general health standards and requirements for the position as established by employer in compliance with NYSDOH and other regulatory agencies if appropriate.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, transfer and position patients in therapeutic equipment on static and movable surfaces.
  • Must be able to stand and move both on land and in the aquatic environment
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of patients as necessary
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift 35 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate the daily schedule of the pool
  • Transport patients to/from aquatic therapy sessions as needed
  • Perform routine upkeep of the pool area on daily basis
  • Perform job related departmental duties when not engaged in aquatic therapy program
  • Organize and coordinate pool schedule in conjunction with schedules of classrooms and other therapies
  • Transport patients to and from classrooms for the purpose of receiving therapy
  • Record and maintain daily statistical logs for pool and modalities
  • Assist patient in donning and doffing of swimwear incorporating therapeutic dressing techniques prior to and after aquatic session including assistance with showering
  • Assist therapist during treatment in the pool under the direct supervision and instruction of registered occupational, physical therapist, or speech therapist when requested.
  • Assist therapist in the pool as required and instructed
  • Perform maintenance and upkeep of the pool area including: Disinfect pool toys on a daily basis, Rinse bathing suits after every use on a daily basis, Place towels in designated areas (clean and dirty) after use
  • Maintain a supply list for the pool area and complete purchase requisitions as directed by the Physical, Occupational and Speech therapy to maintain par levels of supplies
  • Perform other responsibilities in the physical, speech and occupational therapy departments as assigned when not engaged in aquatic therapy program duties such as: Assist supervising physical, speech and occupational therapist in treatment of patients in the therapy gym
  • Participate in scheduled in-service training programs and weekly meetings
  • Sanitize toys, treatment equipment and/or modality equipment as assigned
  • Perform clerical for the Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy departments as needed
  • Comply with established ESCR, Inc. policies and procedures re: quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control, confidentiality of patient information, customer service, attendance, punctuality, dress code, professional conduct, annual health assessments etc.
