About The Position

New Horizon Community Care (NHCC) is seeking a dedicated Team Lead (BHT) for their Phoenix Therapeutic Recreation program. This role involves serving as a positive role model to support, lead, and encourage youth and young adults, as well as a team of BHTs. The position offers the opportunity to form lasting relationships, encourage positive behavior, and design activities to promote the overall welfare of participants, while increasing knowledge in social work, behavioral studies, and management skills. NHCC believes in the power of personal relationships to change behavior and trusts its passionate team of BHTs. The Therapeutic Recreation program utilizes movement, recreation, art, and CBT-based activities to build resilience and confidence in youth and young adults navigating at-risk behaviors in an after-school setting. BHTs provide mentorship, guidance, and care through trauma-informed approaches and cognitive behavior therapy, using sports and activities as therapeutic tools. The role requires close collaboration with the clinical team to implement individualized treatment plans and ensure client safety and well-being.

Requirements

  • Experience with at‑risk youth or behavioral health populations
  • Strong communication & documentation skills
  • Ability to manage group dynamics
  • Comfort with structured environments
  • Willingness to learn crisis intervention
  • Meet state licensing requirements for BHTs/Para Professionals
  • Must possess at least an Associate's degree in a mental health-related field, or be willing to obtain an Associate's degree within 3 years
  • Must be available to work Wednesday - Saturday during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • 21+ years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid AZ Driver's License & insurable driving record
  • Must be able to obtain an AZ DPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (Unrestricted)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff and clients to ensure safety
  • Facilitate groups, activities, and skill‑building sessions
  • Support treatment goals and behavior plans
  • Assist with documentation and case coordination
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed
  • Support academics (CHOICE)
  • Participate in recreation and movement‑based activities (Therapeutic Rec)
  • Collaborate with clinical and program teams
