About The Position

New Horizon Community Care (NHCC) is hiring Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) for our Therapeutic Recreation Program. This program is an after-school behavioral health program that combines recreation with evidence-informed therapeutic approaches. Our BHTs work alongside our clinical and program teams to support youth and young adults navigating behavioral, emotional, and social challenges. Through trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral strategies, mentorship, recreation, and structured activities, you'll help participants practice skills they can carry into school, home, relationships, and everyday life. This role is not sedentary; BHTs use sports, movement, games, art, group activities, and skill-building experiences to help youth build confidence, resilience, healthy coping skills, and positive relationships.

Requirements

  • Must meet Arizona requirements for the BHT position
  • 21 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License and insurable driving record
  • Must be able to obtain an Arizona DPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (Unrestricted)
  • Enjoy working with youth and young adults
  • Experience with at-risk youth, behavioral health, recreation, coaching, mentoring, education, or similar populations
  • Comfortable being active and participating alongside clients
  • Able to confidently manage group dynamics and maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Able to provide structure while still making activities engaging and fun
  • Dependable, patient, flexible, and willing to learn
  • Want hands-on experience in behavioral health, social work, psychology, recreation, education, or human services
  • Applicants must also be able to complete criminal history self-disclosure affidavits and obtain an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, which involves a state and federal criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with youth and young adults
  • Lead and participate in sports, recreation, games, art, and movement-based activities
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups and skill-building activities
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, teamwork, and healthy coping skills
  • Support individualized treatment goals and behavior plans
  • Provide supervision and maintain a safe, structured environment
  • Assist with behavioral health documentation and case coordination
  • Provide support and crisis intervention when needed
  • Collaborate with clinicians, Team Leads, and other program staff
  • Serve as a consistent and positive role model for participants
