About The Position

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, working under the direction of the Recreation Therapist and/or regulated health care professional, the Therapeutic Assistant (TA) is a member of the collaborative health care team. The TA provides support to patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team through the incorporation of facilitation techniques, participation in leisure/recreation activities in a one on one or group setting and communicates patient specific information that will enhance the level of knowledge of the interdisciplinary team. The TA works within the interdisciplinary team following the patient's plan of care to maximize the patient's successful engagement in leisure and care activities within a recreation therapy framework.

Requirements

  • One year post-secondary recreation therapy program (university or college), including the Foundation of Recreation Therapy course.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of dementia.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI).
  • Experience working with older adults.
  • Competencies in other languages preferred; French an asset.
