About The Position

Childrens Theater-in-the-Woods is seeking a Seasonal Theatrical Technician for approximately 40 hours per week, from early May to mid-August. This position is 100% on-site at Wolf Trap Headquarters in Vienna, VA. The role involves serving as Sound Engineer and Stage Manager for all performances and activities, including running house audio, managing mixes, leading setup and teardown of equipment, maintaining stage order, and coordinating with management on sound levels and production elements. The technician will also advance production elements with artists, review technical documents, generate schedules and production information, maintain the production database, report and address equipment maintenance issues, and complete after-performance reports. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have 3-5 years’ experience mixing live performances.
  • Must have strong background in digital consoles and audio best practices.
  • Ability to read contracts, stage plots, and audio input lists.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work early mornings, days, and weekends.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Must possess a valid US state issued driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, move quickly, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be physically located in and have a local address in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Sound Engineer and Stage Manager for all performances and activities.
  • Run house audio and Monitor mixes from Front of House mix location.
  • Provide National Park Service with pertinent show information.
  • Lead a team in day of show operations, such as loading in and setting up/taking down Artist equipment and performance elements.
  • Set up and take down all theatrical equipment, stage sets, props, and audio.
  • Maintain the stage in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Ensure that all equipment is in good and proper working condition.
  • Keep inventory of theatrical expendable inventories, such as Gaff Tape, glue, power/hand tools, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods to ensure that sound levels, balance and mix are within acceptable parameters.
  • Compile all pertinent artist, management and/or agency contact information from the Wolf Trap Foundation programming staff.
  • Advance production elements with Artists, or their representatives, and ensure that they fully understand all venue guidelines and capabilities.
  • Review artist stage plots and audio input lists.
  • Generate and distribute daily schedules.
  • Generate production “one sheets” for all performances and distribute.
  • Distribute production stage plots, audio input lists, and all production support documents.
  • Maintain production database with all necessary show files.
  • Report maintenance issues or damage of all theatrical equipment to Wolf Trap Foundation Production Managers and implement any repairs as directed.
  • Complete After Performance Reports.
